National Headache Awareness Month
Typically 90% of men and 95% of women have experienced a headache within their recent past. While headaches usually aren’t dangerous to our health, we know they are not just “all in our heads” since the discomfort ranges from mild to severe.
These guidelines will help you keep headaches to a minimum:
- Establish routine sleep times
- Eat regular meals and healthy snacks
- Get moderate amounts of exercise
- Drink plenty of water
- Avoid known triggers (such as caffeine, cheese, MSG, alcohol / wine)
- Reduce stress and take time for yourself
- Wear optical-grade polarized sunglasses inside or out for bothersome light
Also, be sure you seek medical help immediately if headaches:
- Interfere with daily activities
- Are sudden or severe, or last more than 24 hours
- Include a stiff neck and fever
- Are very localized and worsen over time
- Occur with difficulty speaking or seeing, or limit balance or movement
Live a lifestyle that leaves your headaches behind.
