Good Intentions: Did you do well this year?

To eat extra veggies, relax more, smoke that last cigarette, see a dentist . . . We all strive to adopt changes that can add to our health, safety and well-being. How successful have you been with your health goals this year? Assess your progress.

  • I stay within 10 pounds of my healthiest weight.
  • I have established and follow a schedule for routine screening and exams with my health care provider.
  • I usually get 7-8 hours of sleep a day.
  • I accumulate 30-60 minutes of exercise most days of the week.
  • I eat at least 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
  • I limit foods high in saturated fat (e.g., fatty cuts of red meat, full-fat dairy and butter) to 2 servings a week.
  • I buckle my seat belt for every trip.
  • I don't smoke.
  • I avoid alcohol or limit intake to one drink a day (for women) or two a day (for men).
  • I never drive after drinking alcohol.
  • I floss my teeth every day.
  • I have at least one dental check per year.
  • I learn what I can about protecting my health.
