Don't Ignore the Value of HealthWise - A True Story

During one of our Wellness Screenings, a fellow employee’s blood pressure was significantly elevated. He immediately contacted his doctor and was put on medication to bring his blood pressure back within a normal range. However, the story does not stop there.

About six months later, he noticed changes in his vision, an increase in thirst and difficulty sleeping. He called his doctor who had him go for a blood test. The following morning, he received a call from his doctor informing him to immediately go to the emergency room because his glucose level was dangerously high. This employee spent the next several days in the hospital getting better and reflecting on how this could happen. What had happened was that he did not take the results of his wellness screening seriously. His fasting blood sugar was elevated but he thought he could make the
necessary changes, excercise more, eat better and all would be fine.

Since the hospital stay, this employee has lost 30 pounds, changed his diet and now visits his doctor on a regular basis. He knows he had all the information from the wellness screening to give to his doctor to do a thorough job of treating his situation. He just simply filed the results away, ignored all the signs and refused to think anything could happen to him.

Make a difference in your life and the life of your family. We hope you choose to take advantage of the valuable resources offered by Crown.

This story also demonstrates the importance of sharing your results with your physician. As a reminder, Crown takes steps to protect your privacy and confidentiality in the HRA and Wellness Screening program. Crown does not see any individual lab results. The blood tests are processed and results are sent directly to the University of Michigan Health Management Research Center (UMHMRC). With your consent, UMHMRC will send a copy of your Healthy Lifestyle Profile to your physician. But if you choose not to do that, we encourage you to contact your physician immediately with any test results that are out of range.
